The quarterfinals of the IV ARABA WORLD TENNIS TOUR FEMENINO Open Grupo Amutio have been defined.

  • On Thursday, Lucia Cortez’s victory over the tournament’s number 2 seed, Oceane Dodin, was the highlight of the day.
  • On Friday the tournament continues with the singles quarterfinals and semifinals in the doubles draw.

Vitoria-Gasteiz, July 20, 2023.- On the fifth day of the IV ARABA WORLD TENNIS TOUR FEMENINO Open Grupo Amutio that takes place at the Peña Vitoriana Tennis Club, the round of 16 corresponding to the final phase of the tournament in the singles draw and the quarterfinals in the doubles draw have been held.

In the singles draw the following players have qualified for the next round: Marina BASSOLS (ESP), Jessika PONCHET (FRA), Daria SNIGUR (UKR), Alexandra EALA (PHI), Lucía CORTEZ (ESP), Zhuoxuan BAI (CHN), Valeria SAVINYKH (RUS) and Jodie BURRAGE (GBR).

The day has started with a great match in the first round on the Araba Aldundia court; with the fight of the Basque-French Nahia Berecoechea, qualified in the preliminary round, against the number 3 seed and champion of the tournament last year, who has decided the match in two intense sets 7-6 (8-6) / 6-2.

The surprise of the day was Lucia Cortez, who defeated the French player, seeded number 2 of the tournament, Oceane Dodin in two sets. The closing match of the day in the singles draw was the match of the number 1 of the tournament and current number 98 of the WTA ranking, Jodie Burrage, against the Spanish Eva Guerrero, who showed a great level of tennis and put the tournament favorite against the ropes several times.

From the quarterfinals of the doubles draw have qualified for the semifinals: Alicia BARNETT (GBR) / Olivia NICHOLS (GBR), Lia KARATANCHEVA (BUL) / Sesil KARATANCHEVA (BUL), Estelle CASCINO (FRA) / Diana MARCINKEVICA (LAT) and Luksika KUMKHUM (THA) / Peangtarn PLIPUECH (THA).

The first two pairs have advanced to the next round due to the withdrawal of their rival pairs, both for physical reasons.

The competition continues tomorrow at 11:00 am with a total of 6 matches with free public access to the Peña Vitoriana.
