The player from Alicante beat Celia Cerviño in the final to reach the finals of the Araba World Tennis Tour.
The number 21 of the national ranking, Ángela Fita, fulfilled the predictions and defeated in a disputed final the Galician Celia Cerviño by 7-5 and 7-6 (7-3 in the tie break), winning the first edition of the national Open Isa del Campo, qualifier for the II edition of the Araba World Tennis Tour to be held between 12 and 18 July on the courts of the Peña Vitoriana Tenis Club.
The final had a very high level of tennis and went beyond two hours, with Ángela Fita dominating in the first set, although Celia Cerviño was solid from the back of the court and with winning points with her powerful forehand. After 58 minutes, the player from Xátiva took the first set by 7-5, while the heat began to tighten. The 30th ranked player in the Spanish ranking was determined to extend the duel and was about to do so in the second set. More intense and with deeper balls, she broke her rival’s serve to 3-5. The problems with the first serve throughout the clash and double faults in the final stretch, condemned the Pontevedra who saw how Fita came back with three consecutive games. The Alicante showed her mental strength and variety in her strokes, weapons to break Cerviño whose forehand is lethal, besides knowing how to defend very well in the baseline game. Perhaps she failed to break the dynamic with a shot closer to the net, so many that Fita did get with some merit left. Tough and competitive, Cerviño equalized the set at 6-6, so everything was decided in the tie break where two double faults of serve condemned Cerviño to give the victory to Ángela Fita after taking the extra and definitive game by 7-3.
Fita was coming off a back injury that had kept her out for three months. In her reappearance and despite doing it on a hard and demanding court, she offered the best sensations and a good tennis that she will have the opportunity to show again in the Araba World Tennis Tour, for which she has qualified for the finals. Cerviño takes the consolation prize of the qualifying round, an opportunity for both to compete in an international tournament of high level and prestige as an ITF 60,000.
Before the final, the Peña Vitoriana club wanted to pay tribute to its veteran player Federico Verástegui after winning a few weeks ago the Spanish championship in mixed doubles +65 paired with Carmen Chillida.
In the other categories of the I Isa del Campo Tournament, in cadets the victory went to Bosco Fernandez de Larrea after beating Peru Bayo 6-3, 6-1 in the final. In infantile, the final victory went to Unai Arija after beating Miguel Lezamiz 6-1, 6-2.
